Saint John's Bible In-Person

This is your last chance to see a volume of the monumental Saint John's Bible! This is the first-handwritten, hand-painted and illuminated bible commissioned since the invention of the printing press more than 500 years ago. At 25 inches high, this beautiful giant combines the use of old-style tools with modern-day images in what organizers of the project describe as “a work of art and a work of theology.” The Saint John's Bible has been hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University for the past year and will depart Bloomington-Normal at the end of the month. Don't miss your chance to learn about this massive undertaking, which involved some of the world's most famous calligraphers and liturgical artists. All ages are welcome to this program.

  • 2pm; Presentation by trained docent.

  • 3pm; Documentary film The Illuminator and a Bible for the 21st Century about the making of the Bible through the eyes of its lead calligrapher-artist, Donald Jackson.
