Summer Reading Program Begins In-Person

Bloomington Public Library’s 2019 Summer Reading Program begins today and runs through Monday, July 29. This annual program is for children, teens, and adults.

  • Children: To complete the program a child must either read 20 books OR read for 15 hours. Younger children (those who cannot yet read) can join in the fun by having someone read to them. Children who complete the program earn prizes and maintain reading skills gained during the school year.
  • Teens: For every 5 hours of reading a teen completes, they’ll receive an entry into a grand-prize drawing which will have multiple winners. Once the teen has completed 10 hours of reading, they can stop into the Library for a small prize which marks that they’re halfway to the finish. When they’ve read all 20 hours, they can turn in their completed prize slip at the Adult Services Desk or on the Bookmobile to claim their completion prize pack.
    • Additionally, if the teens as a group read 5,000 hours collectively this summer, they will earn a teen-only Summer Reading Party which would be held in early August. In order to reach this goal, teens are encouraged to read beyond the 20-hour mark.
  • Adults: Summer Reading for adults includes a combination reading log/Bingo card. Adults will read or listen to books, audiobooks, magazines, etc., while also checking off category-specific squares on their Bingo card. When an adult completes one row of their Bingo card, they’ll receive their completion prize pack. Each row completed will also earn the adult an entry into our adult prize drawings which will be held at the program’s conclusion.
